Re: CTDOT: Hartford Line

Amtrak #453 (Windsor Locks-NHV) is cancelled more often than not in the mornings. Five of the last six days by my count that it's been replaced with bus service.

It appears that MNR isn't running the holiday "Shopper Special" trains that they used to in the weekends leading up to Christmas. Gonna be some crazy crowds on the evening semi-expresses to New Haven - it was crowded last year and that was with extra trains that ran express to Fairfield.

The Hartford Line is nearly completely sold out for tomorrow. I expect them to destroy the single-day paid ridership record, as even Regional 148 (8 car set) is completely sold out. Just using the indicators on the Amtrak site, ridership on Amtrak alone (not CTrail, which is running high-capacity ba...

Honestly, mixed feelings on an Orange station. Rides out to New Haven are already 2 hours long even on semi-express trains, I don't want yet another stop on the longest straightaway east of Stamford.

Wow. Hourly weekend service running as early as 3:30 AM, from the Shore Line to Mamaroneck. https://web.archive.org/web/20060702021 ... eekend.pdf
And if the train numbers are to be believed, they also ran SLE sets from Grand Central up to Mamaroneck.

SLE did in fact serve Winged Foot. Would love to find video...

Metro-North continues to mismanage the Upper Hudson, with cascading effects for the rest of the line. Their decision to not continue to run twice-hourly service has proved disastrous, with excessive crowds creating heavy delays and unsafe onboard decisions. Both last night and today, train 8852 (as ...

Update to the service cuts. The early morning round trip has been hosed, and there is a new in New Haven at 8:30am, with a new departure at 5:18pm. That early morning trip is too early for commuters to New Haven and the MNR connection takes 20 minutes, and gets to NYC just 15 minutes before a train ...

Yep. Did it around the same time they got the announcements working.

Any update on work on that bridge in East Haven that knocks off the third rail shoes?

Smart of MNR to run extra pre-holiday weekend afternoon express trains. 3540 (express, first stop Westport) has about 300 people. 3538 (regular Friday-only train) had 330 out of Grand Central, and another 125 got on at Stamford. Not having the Stamford thru trains really is a missed opportunity for ...

Bit of a facepalm moment for Metro-North, again with the Yankees services. They put a 6-car set on the first New Haven express (which normally gets packed as an 8 car) and are running an 8-car on the second New Haven train, which appears to be nearly empty. My last few experiences with the Yankees t...

Having to lug a Diesel engine around while the train is running on an electric route seems like it'll slow acceleration down by a lot. If they don't think the electric power cars will be reliable enough to not need a diesel, that's a problem in of itself.

Couple questions:

Will these be replacing the Sprinter/Amfleet/Metroliner Cab sets that typically run on the Keystone Service?
If so, how would it work? Will the fact that it's diesel-hauled slow the trains down? Or will they exclusively draw power from the APC?

I saw it being "tested" last week. Pulling out of New Haven, the "next stop" signs on my train to Grand Central said "Old Saybrok" and that this is the train to New London.

Just read that these will be capable of 125mph operations. Will be a big improvement over the 80mph MBBs and 85mph Mafersa's, and will hopefully make the trip times between CTrail and Amtrak on the Hartford Line identical.
