Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

Haverhill service ended completely back during the dark days of the commuter rail system. In a nutshell, once the MBTA began supporting commuter rail service, it was largely cut back to the MBTA service district (inside Route 128). The B&M continued one single commuter trip (via Woburn/Wilmington on...

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

A friend sent photos last night of the former Medford branch duck-under - the rail's been removed from the former main track going through the tunnel. Should be a very different look over there now with the vertical curves replaced by a horizontal ones.

Re: 2019 Commuter Rail Delay Thread

Seems like there's been mess all over the north side the last two commutes. Last night (Wed 8/21), the Haverhill Line had: 217 died in or near Malden. 295 ended up pushing 217 all the way to HAV, incurring a 90-120 minute delay for 217's passengers. 219 & 223 took significant delays, looks like mayb...

Re: Interesting Consist Discussion for the North Side

That was what sounded like an epic failure of 217, being rescued by 295. I'll post something over in the delay thread from what I saw on T Alerts.

Re: South Station Shenanigans

It's not quite as simple as having a train available. Specific trainsets are assigned to certain schedules based on where they'll end up. Not just the number/type of cars, but also at rush hour there's the distinction of whether the trainset returns to the city for another trip, or if it lays up at ...

Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

Eastern Route to inner Fitchburg line would make sense if there are new stations created along the inner Fitchburg. Add stops to serve Union Square (Green Line to East Cambridge soon), Alewife area, and Waltham around 128 and you have potential for making a very easy way to commute from the North Sh...

Re: Green Line Expansion Beyond Lechmere

You get high frequency transit service at the 128 belt by converting commuter rail to regional rail - EMUs on high frequencies, sharing the railroad with longer distance trains. Add in the rail link downtown, and you'll probably end up spending something that's not radically different that rapid tra...

Re: North-South Rail Link Discussion

Other than for equipment moves n-s (which can be done via grand junction) I don't really see what the tunnel buys us that we can't get by just electrifying CR to 128. People who work in the city are willing to walk from NS to SS after commuting, or can take the OL. I mean, I see what we'd get, but ...

Among other challenges from the heavy, wet snow on 3/8/18, Lowell inbound #300 derailed in Wilmington this morning, throwing an already difficult commute further off course. The Keolis Boston office Twitter feed has several pictures of the cleanup: https://twitter.com/KeolisBoston/status/97175633552...

Re: New Orange and Red Line Car Acquisition Process

No, sets of 6:

A-B-B-A-B-A

Or some combination thereof, so long as A cars are on either end.

Neither line can handle 8 car trains without some major station surgery.

Yes, all tracks will shift one position to the "downriver" side. The outbound track is now in it's permanent location, and next the inbound track will shift to where the outbound was for the last phase. Finally, where the inbound track has been during the shoo-fly will be returned to the Boston-boun...

T alerts and Twitter reporting police on the right of way in Andover. No reasons given, but 219 being bused, 221 held at Anderson. 224 cancelled. Doesn't sound good.

Re: Service Changes, Unusual Subway Sightings and Reroutes

Makes sense. I recall getting weekend Q trains to Astoria when the 7 was shut down, back in the way back before Second Ave opened up. We often stay in LIC when visiting, and usually found the extra service on the N/Q was more convenient to where we were going than having the 7 running...one of those...

T Alerts are announcing that weekend busing on the Eastern Route will go through August 27th, so looks like the PTC weekend closures will end about a month earlier than originally expected. T Press Release - work will start on Needham Branch first weekend in September: http://www.mbta.com/about_the_...
