The Track Department works out of one of those buildings. The former Carpenter Shop is an occasional stop for engines low on water. I remember taking photos in the late '60s of a carpenter crew refurbishing the floor of a boxcar.
I completely agree with these observations. I've had pretty good sleeping car service, and I've had horrible sleeping car service. Originally I would tip at the end of the trip, as in a restaurant, thinking that a good tip should be based on good service. I came to understand that tipping was expect...
Looks like a New Hampshire plate to me. AP (as in apportioned), not AF.
Likely not supposed "to be out there", but it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AQjubZvWEt6P9C6wuV4wCZuwg-gtpiqA/view Reading the "Onboard Service Changes" makes me sad. I've taken many trips and always enjoyed the diner experience. The Overview of changes is loaded with spin...
While this is a discussion board, not necessarily postings of fact, it always concerns me when statistics are tossed around with qualifiers such as "probably", "implies", and "let's assume...". We're mixing opinion and what could be taken as fact. I'm not sure where the...
Aha! Thanks!
Passing through Dover, yesterday's (Tuesday, July 9) AYPO had some interesting cars in the consist. I think they were behind the Eimskips. There were a couple of long tanks, similar in size to a standard LPG car, with a short, stubby tank car in between. All were black with dark red ends, and displa...
The top eastbound signal at CPF 243 is visible again. The caterpillars must have chewed away the foliage.
Ahh... could be the greenery. I'd noticed that the top head was getting difficult to see a couple of weeks ago. It could be that the trees have really taken over now. From Central Avenue I couldn't see any color at all in the top head yesterday.
While the 3rd & Chestnut streets crossing in Dover has been rebuilt this week MOW people seemed to be taking advantage of the lack of trains to do additional work in the areas of CPF 242-243 and 256-258. I just looked quickly from Central Avenue this afternoon, and it appears that the two-masted...
NHN crew is usually on duty in Dover at 7 am and out of town, headed east and north, by 8 if there is no switching to do. If there is gas and/or steel to pick up in the yard they'll leave later.
I haven't bothered to trace it back, but I don't understand why it keeps coming up, either. I don't believe it originated with the T. I can't imagine that it originated with NNEPRA. So... did someone here toss it out as an idea and now it is seen as a legitimate possibility?
I find all the talk about having vendors available along a route, ready to restock food as needed, amusing, naïve, and idealistic. I'm all for full-service food wherever possible. At the very least, it helps to complete the experience and make it a good experience, not just an experience that was to...
Three (I think it was three; it was a few hours ago) tie cars going north from Dover today along with the gas, steel, and empties.
