Re: An interesting ride from Montauk this AM.

8701 was assigned only 4 cars this morning. After the crew realized the crowding issues, they made contact with LIRR supervision. LIRR then announced over twitter and Facebook and other channels that an extra train would be run from Southampton to Speonk where it would either connect with a Speonk t...

Re: An interesting ride from Montauk this AM.

We arrived at Patchogue a good 45 minutes late. Every station we hit, save Bellport had about a 5 minute dwell time.

An interesting ride from Montauk this AM.

This morning I took my regular 704 out of Montauk. The first thing I noticed was that the platform was basically full, and I was a good 20 minutes early. There were tons of taxis letting out the tourist crowd and the platform became even more full. Shoved by 416 and led by cab car 5016, we departed ...

Re: Service Disruption - Montauk Branch

I read elsewhere that they just straight rail repaired at Speonk and bypassed the switches. Do you think they'll take the opportunity to lengthen the siding so as to avoid this happening in the future?

Re: Westbury Wreck 02/26/2019

LIRR has established partial service this am on the main line. They removed the one train and repaired the "south" rail so that trains can get by. There will be mid-day closure to rerail the derailed cars and get them moved. Westbury will be getting a new platform based on the pictures I saw. https:...

Re: Westbury Wreck 02/26/2019

This is probably a very stupid question but I have almost no familiarity with LIRR operations. Why can't trains to and from Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma be detoured via the Babylon and Central Branches? Are there just not enough spare diesel locomotives to pull this off, even after the peak travel...

Westbury Wreck 02/26/2019

Hearing reports of car vs train, at least two cars derailed involved and at least 2 DOA's. Looks like one train collided with the platform as well.

Prayers for all involved.

Future LIRR Speculation

What future projects do you think the LIRR should be looking at? I think expanding electrification with the arrival of M9's should be one of the first major projects taken up. I know there's talk of electrifying out to Port Jeff, but what about on the south side, possibly to Sayville or Patchogue. I...

Re: East End Service: Greenport Scoot, Montauk Line, Etc.

Do you guys think that with a possible charger purchase that they would also look to purchase additional bilevels? Also how much additional service could be provided just by adding single levels such as the Marc’s and Shoreliners. Also does anyone know if there are any plans to extend electrificatio...

Re: LIRR seeks to lease 8-21 MARC coaches (for Montauk Summe

So it looks like the consensus is that LIRR will be short again this summer. Is it possible that with the M9 cars coming onto property that some of the diesels that operate in electric territory getting moved out and used solely on the non-electric territory and the M9's being used instead? Delay th...
