I was able to get a pretty good view from the D&L trail on the north bank of the Lehigh. Rained pretty hard the whole time.

Let's not forget that New York Trailways runs multiple buses every day to Montreal from NYC and other locations in New York. They do stop in Saratoga Springs, and they put on another bus serving Rensselaer specifically when the suspension happened. That's a good stop-gap, though they skip Port Henry...

Is it not possible to use CPKC all the way to Montreal? There must be a way to switch back to CN somewhere near the Central station. The geometry is all wrong. The CPKC Lacolle Subdivision (ex-Naperville Junction Railway) turns northwest and connects with the CPKC Adirondack Subdivision at Delson. ...

If they can run the Vermonter to St. Albans, they can surely run the Adirondack to Plattsburgh,no? Per Trains there aren't good places to turn at Plattsburgh or Rouses Point. They could run push-pull, but I assume you'd still need a place to park with 480V ground power. In 2019 , the last full year...

I think it was far easier for private railroads to respond to situations like these. They owned the right-of-way, and there was more of it, making potential re-routing easier. They had additional cars. They had far more employees. Labor rules were different. I'm not sure any meaningful comparison ca...

I also don't read that press release as an intention to replace the V-I and V-II fleet (certainly not the V-IIs), but more that Amtrak is providing information about its entire long distance fleet to manufacturers.

Stadler's getting more and more involved in the North American market, I would be surprised if they didn't tender a proposal.

I don't suppose anyone recorded the consist for this special? I've seen stories listing the types of cars (1 diner, 5 sleepers, 2 lounges, 1 baggage car, 1 "staff" car), but nothing in greater detail. I'm surprised that none of the Canadian railfanning publications (Canadian Rail, Branchli...

Sure, we all want to talk about the trains here, but don't fault some of us for caring how they're paid for. As already pointed out, the freight rolling by never stopped. They appear to have decided the risk to their property is minimal and manageable. If CSX truly saw this as a threat, they'd clos...

I'm booked on 290 (2) and haven't heard anything from Amtrak, which is right and proper given that the bus bridge is working and it doesn't materially affect my arrival into NYP. My sister was able to book a ticket on 290 (4) back to Burlington this morning. From my vantage point, Amtrak is committe...

I'm on 291 (29) and the communication about the bus bridge, both before boarding and on board, has been excellent. I don't know if they're planning to continue busing while they get this resolved or if it's just to try and save the first day of operations.

I particularly like the last sentence of the quote--as far as I know the NTSB still has no power to regulate, only to recommend. I trust that their recommendations on seatbelts will be given all the consideration they deserve by the appropriate regulatory authorities and then forgotten. No doubt. N...

You're also forgetting that Amtrak long ago swore off of 6 axle power. I'm sure some of the older folks here remember the SDP40F's, P30CH's and the E60CH's. I'm sure the MAC70's will work well for METRA especially getting trains quickly up to speed. I just don't think Amtrak will ever touch anythin...
