Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

Lowell has done some work to be a tourist attraction. Lawrence...hasn't. I've only been there a few times but there is not much near the station. Good beer, bit of a walk from the station. https://www.thecladdaghpub.com/Home . Not sure where the unsafe areas of Lawrence are or even if it is still th...

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

I just discovered Lowell Junction last fall. I am pretty sure that the track ended just north of the switch when I first saw it.

Last visit I noticed that now it is just south of the road at the south end of the station.

Hope they go furthur soon..

Re: Haverhill Line Upgrade Discussion (Western Route)

In lieu of answering the question, on the south side the second track has made it all the way to just south of the station- it was only at Lowell Junction when winter ender. The switch is still at Lowell Junction.

Not a simple intersection, and very bad timing.

Re: Pan Am Southern / Patriot Corridor Discussion

Lots of parked trains in Middlesex county and a little bit of motion. Saturday 8/18 afternoon I randomly went from Tewksbury to past Hill Yard. Freight parked on the passing siding under 495 around 3:00 - don't remember seeing it earlier. There was a westbound (former CSX?) parked on the siding east...

Re: Amtrak Loneliest depots

Windsor Locks, CT is a fairly safe town but the Amshack isn't really within an easy walk of anybody. There are a few houses more or less across the tracks but the closest business is about 100 yards. (CT is not the far west and Daniel Boone would laugh at me...but it feels isolated).

Right around 1:10 in the video. What word is she using? "Hydroconic Acid"?

Must not have been a big fan of high school chemistry. Glad noting spilled and the crews are undamaged.

Re: $10 Unlimited Weekend Fare

I rode from Ayer-BON-Haverhill and back last weekend. (Free parking in Ayer, plus I had never been past Concord on my home Fitchburg line. First time on the T CR in 20+ years and first other line ever). I had earlier found it a challenge to learn where to buy the ticket (it is on the website). I ask...

I hope that it is just coincidence that the "violent deportee" who escaped from JFK was caught near the Chicago Amtrak station (near end of article). If no, maybe not the best advertisement for who you can meet on a train (which will not stop me..) http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/03/30/violent-deport...

Went by Concord Depot this afternoon. The Sudbury Rd (eastern) gates were down. Police looked like they had been there a while. The ~5:00 westbound express was probably the last train before the event.

Re: Telegraph poles

Fitchburg line in Lincoln had several sets of greenish (presumably copper) wires at the top of the poles. I remember those wire disappearing sometime in the late seventies. I think there was a comm line too; not sure what it did or when they disappeared.
