This was one of my favorite stations, and with the police station there I considered it a safe place to stop while railfanning. I've stopped there often and walked the platform from end to end to take photos. And a public restroom is welcome. Gary seems a bit seedy at times - I suppose no place is ...

I realize there are lines into Rochelle from the west but it isn't entirely out of the question that the shells would arrive at Eola and then head back west up to Rochelle. When the last cars were delivered (to NICTD) they were delivered on their own wheels. I'd expect nothing less for the new cars...

After 20 pages it seems I'm a bit late to the political "punching bag " topic... well heres one that just ran across my desk http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-09-26/republicans-can-privatize-amtrak-if-they-want-to.html As usual the stories begin to fly that the Republicans can privatize A...

I love riding the express train up north. On the way back downtown around lunch, only the red all-stop trains are available, and a ten minute ride turns into an hour ride. I understand that it wouldn't make sense to run frequent express trains outside of rush hour, but I'm curious about the feasibi...

For all you armchair generals out there, if your brother or sister, mother or father were crying for help on the other side of a crossing and you thought that you could make the crossing, would you go for it or would you sit there and wait for the crossing to clear ? I do see your point ad respect ...

1) The London-Sarnia ON train that's getting cut is what used to be part of the Amtrak/VIA "International", or what used to be, pre-Amtrak, the Grand Trunk Western-Canadian National day train from Chicago to Toronto, which was called "Maple Leaf". 2)I think it's a bit silly for ...

This is definitely a sad turn of events for VIA rail, As the part that mostly disturbs me is the cuts to southwestern Ontario. I believed a few yrs ago VIA was tangentially stating that service in the corridor as a whole was on the rise and in response they were looking to add more and/or longer tra...

Looks like someone forgot the number one rule of thumb when it comes to railroads, Don't for any reason go around downed gates, the outcome may not be in your favor. Didn't they test the Acela here at high speeds back when it was new, or was that testing up in Mass? Then again, they might publicize it like the French do*. Hehe guys this is Chicago. The home of pork and payola... It makes no diff if we did a bunch of work on the red line a few years ago, and certainly makes no diff that the north side L probably needs way more work than the south side...
