I was on the builder the other day and almost every passenger in 2-3 cars was going to Lacrosse,Winona, or MSP. The demand for this train exists.
From the Great River Rail Facebook page:
An agreement has been signed with the Ramsey County rail authority for facility use to store trains overnight and a service start date and train name will be announced "this spring".
This was from March 20th so hopefully soon.
IF I am not mistaken a 3rd frequency is already in the plans for once track improvements are completed... I also picked up on a possible LaCrosse to Saint Pual train. As someone who lives in Winona I would love to be able to go to Twin Cities and be back the same day.
Typical Atlanta Nimbys.....
Per a conductor qualified for the new train service is supposed to start in February 2024 now.

Th state of Minnesota has created a survey. Only new info on this new train.
I could see this being done out of the Chicago hub as it would add yet another train to the Empire Builder corridor up to Winona and then picking up Rochester, Souix Falls, Pierre then Rapid City.
There are some other threads I've found but it's all the same info and lots of people are asking now so hopefully more info starts getting out there. From what I have heard here in Winona is that crews are all qualified and will be based out of Milwaukee
Is there any new information as to whether or not this service will start in September.
As a regular user of the existing Empire Builder from observation not everyone is going to Chicago. Quite a large crowd usually gets on and off at Milwaukee. From Winona and LaCrosse the train to Milwaukee is very competitive with driving.
The new train will add Milwaukee Mitchel Airport and Sturdivant both of which are very brief stops.
Some new info... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_River_(train) Schedule... https://amtraktimetable.com/blog/2023/05/05/new-proposed-amtrak-service/ Per wiki this service will start in September 2023. It will operate under the Amtrak Midwest brand. It will be trains 333 ad 340. I hope September...
