Re: #4 Red Line Cars 1900-2151

I wonder if it would be more time and cost effective for the commonwealth to admit defeat on the CCRC order, cancel it and begin ordering #5's from a more reliable manufacturer. At this rate it would take what, 10 years to get all the cars from CCRC?

Globe has an article today citing soaring fairmount ridership, mainly Red Line refugees. They also mention this bill that's out there to try and dedicate equipment to the line and plan electrification. https://malegislature.gov/Bills/193/H3908

We have strayed pretty far from the A Line in this discussion I know, but I think I should clear up some misconceptions about commuting from Newton's north side as somebody with years of firsthand experience. Walking 15 minutes is fine when an Express bus option arrives three or four minutes like it...

No garage needed. The 500 series busses and 57 pre pandemic were packed to the gills with 10-15 minute headways..

I say this almost every time the topic of restoring the A comes back up. There is no chance that a street-running trolley on that route could provide the quality and frequency of service of the current road-going 57 (supplemented by the 504). The traffic on the route is too hideous and planning/oper...

We are very aware of this project - the people I know aware of it are already referring to it as Big Dig 2.0. It is apt to throw a real wrench in travel for the 10-15 years it will take to execute it. (We should just get the people who fixed the Philly viaduct in like a weekend to come up and do it)...

The Commuter Rail is the wrong straw man to set up these days to sway public opinion. The riding public and local media generally view the CR as the only "winner" of the post-pandemic, post-baker T. https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/06/07/metro/mbta-commuter-rail-ridership/ I would love to ...

At the end of the day it’s all coming out of the state coffers (aka our tax dollars). Who cares which spreadsheet it’s on.

Just download the app "Transit" on your phone. It will look up the schedules of all the T transit around you using location. It's a godsend for those of us out in rubber-wheeled country.

Keolis has kept the Commuter Rail running very well over the past few years, contrary to the state-run subway/bus systems which are pretty much broken right now. Just sayin.

This story ay be enough to kill this effort: https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/04/05/ ... utors-say/

The I-90 straightening job out in Allston is shaping up to be Big Dig 2.0 (yet another thing Charlie punted to future leadership rather than fixing), and the way things are going I doubt there will be any political will for that or for a 3.0 (that which shall not be named)

Unbelievable how bad things have gotten

120k is borderline insulting salary for a management role of this scope, IMO.
