Re: Mystery caboose and coach in Shannock, RI

The caboose is genuine, but the "coach" is, in fact, a DINER made to look like a coach.
Probably built in Worcester.

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

7470 HAS pulled passenger up the Notch plenty of times, if 7470 can, 501 can. Assuming "TE" stands for "tractive effort" then 501 is even more capable of pulling anything 7470 can. But your assessment fails to take into account the SIZE of the train. I don't know offhand if the Notch trips 7470 made...

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

In the interest of FAIRNESS, and with no other underlying motives, compare the projected timeline for #501 to the ACTUAL time it took The Valley to get #97 going again. Comparable locomotives, similar simplicity of design, contemporary build-dates. Without looking it up on my phone (because I’m away...

I’m certain ML&M would notice and address those items.
They now have several pristine working locos under their collective belts to brag about. 😉

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

Someone needs to get up to the North country and start filming the various stages of the restorations,
could probably release a feature-lenght documentary including the "first-runs"!

Re: Conway Scenic Railroad (CSRX) discussion thread

Boothbay is more than capable, but they've got some stuff on their plate now. Probably that'll be done by the time 501 comes round though.
They did an assessment of needed work some time back and most likely little has changed since then.

gokeefe wrote:When exactly did CSRX come out and say they were considering a mechanical restoration of #501?
The newest owner mentioned it in interviews with TRAINS magazine recently.
I can't remember the issue, but it was around mid-summer IIRC.

Aside from that brief mention in TRAINS magazine, has anyone else heard anything about restoring the 501 to operating?
