Providence/Stoughton delays

Postby caduceus » Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:54 pm

Just saw on WBZ - there are serious delays on the Providence/Stoughton line. A CR train appears to have collided with what looks like a lumber car in Canton, with the engine (an F40, couldn't see a number) striking the car. It doesn't looks like it was too fast, but you could see the lumber scattered to either side.

The lumber car appeared to be all alone - no idea what it was doing there.

Providence/Stoughton service is experiencing 30+ minute delays. I don't know what the centerbeam was doing there, but it's causing a lot of delays.

They are apparently busing between Sharon and Canton.

Update 1: MBTA web site says: Prov/Stou is being diverted to substitute shuttle bus service between Route 128 Station and Sharon and Stoughton Stations due to a medical emergency at Canton Junction Station. 3/25/2008 5:52 PM

I thought the "medical emergency" sounded strange, but on the live shot just now it looked liked a firefighter/EMT was bringing a backboard towards the train.

Update 2: They are now saying that the train was NOT moving, but the lumber car broke loose from "its own track", and struck the train.

And at least three people have been carried off the train and were in a triage area, and ambulance stretchers were sitting near the train.

Update 3: Last update, "several" people have been injured. Busing between Readville and Stoughton.

I was on that very train, going to Stoughton. When the huge jolt tore through the train, I thought there was some kind of derailment or the train got rear-ended. Fortunately, it wasn't anything serious except for the front of loco 1030.

Hope the engineer is okay.

Oh, it was an F40PH2C, thanks for the engine type involved, Hopefully they can save the engine and I hope the engineer driver is fine too.

Nope. Yesterday it was a signal failure between Everett Jct and somewhere near Lynn. Today if was a break down that caused the snow ball effect.
