Winchester & Western passenger extra

The W&W South Jersey Division ran a passenger extra Wednesday morning with privately owned Pullman Comberland Club sandwiched between two GP9's. The train deadheaded to Vineland following their freight train, which had a pair of GP9's on the front and another on the rear, with fifty-five cars between.
The extra, with 811 on the east end, Cumberland Club in the middle, and 459 on the west, picked up its passengers at Maurice River Parkway and went to Bridgeton, crossing the Maurice River (pronounced 'Morris') at the beginning of its journey.

Great pictures, Bob! Thanks for sharing! Neat little train they ran, and I really liked the shot at the wooden pile trestle.

I don't know much about the W&W. Can someone enlighten me to their operation? I didn't know they had their own frieght cars.

Bob -

Once again....ah ya know the drill by now !

Any idea of Cumberland Club's origins ? CNJ ?

She appears to have friction bearing trucks....which I presume limit's her to WW rails only ? Looks to be well cared for.

What, where did this come from? I didnt know there was another small railroad running in south jersey. I have never heard of this railroad before...

WW operates the former Jersey Central south of Vineland and (I think) operates on the former PRR between Vineland and Millville via trackage rights on Conrail Shared Assets.

I didn't notice any movement of the bridge from the weight of the engines. It looks to me as though the low point of the bridge is low whether it's under locomotive trucks or not.

Sure looks it... Comparing the 4 or 5 shots there... it's definately flatter when the coach is centered and the sag is where geeps roll.

Neat stuff Bob. Vineland is a rather unique area for trains in New Jersey.
