Bustitution on PVL (train 1621) starting March 9

Postby pgengler » Wed Mar 08, 2006 12:13 am

I happened over to NJT's website, and caught this notice about service on the PVL. Train 1621 (the 1:56 from Hoboken) will only run as far as Pearl River, with a transfer to a bus to Nanuet and Spring Valley.

The work (scheduled to take three weeks, so I figure around a month or so) is supposedly for the installation of switches for one of the new passing sidings.

Looks like the end is finally in sight (though still in the distance) for the work along the PVL.

Could it be that Metro North is pushing for this siding? Maybe new trains will start this year?? :-D

If it's this year, it'll be late this year. This is only the switches on one siding; there are still two(?) others to do, plus the new signals and such, and then testing. This siding seems (to me) to be too far away from the merge/split with the M/BCL to allow for any new trains on its own.

Well, in sight ... through a giant telescope, maybe?

I would say there is now an end in sight. Granted, it is far away. :-D

It should be noted that for about 2 weeks in January, there was also this same diversion.

There is a bus parked at Nanuet Station (along with all the construction equipment) that I believe is used to transport passengers. It is an old NJ Transit white bus (looks like a school bus).
