Great Western Railway electrified line goes live

Postby David Benton » Wed Jan 09, 2019 12:51 am

"Trains have begun operating on new sections of electrified line on the Great Western Railway.

Work on the track between Reading and Newbury, and Swindon and Bristol, has been plagued with problems, including delays and spiralling costs.

It is part of plans to modernise the Great Western mainline."

The only train trips I regret are the ones I didn't take.

When - if - this project is completed I hope there will be an assessment of how long it has taken, and how much more it has cost than originally estimated. The omission of the route to Oxford is a serious defect. It means that only dual fuel trains will be able to travel to Oxford, and electrification should have been extended all the way to Coventry.
