Remaining SW-1s

Postby Brent S. Bette » Thu May 10, 2018 9:41 am

Good Morning!

For an upcoming article in Classic Trains about SW-1s, a inquiry has been made about how many B&M units remain. This was the list that I was given but would like to "vet it" to a wider audience. Thank you!

#1109 RMNE
#1113 BSRM
#1114 became the Stone Mountain “boxcar” and later back to an industrial switcher in GA (still there?)
#1122 ISLX
#1126 Luzerne & Susquehanna
#1127 L&S

I had never heard of it, until this thread..I was curious so I googled it:

The "General II" in service but not under steam. SW1 in the boxcar doing the work."

Note the SW1 trucks underneath its boxcar sheath..interesting!

Rode behind it when I visited there back in the 90's. Interesting idea.

I assume the "box car look" was nothing more than a cover over the locomotive?

Yes. They built the frame around the locomotive, and had a control stand in the General 2.
