Postby NJTRailfan » Thu Apr 05, 2018 2:55 am

Hello, Does anyone know whats will the next Walthers Passenger Name Train will be? I had hoped for the Lackawanna and Erie Lackawanna Phoebe Snow. Possibly even the CNJ Blue Comet.

Too early for Walters to announce it,normally done in July or Aug in the Flyer and the website.
It's normally a "named" train that has a known national following like the Broadway Ltd,20th Century Ltd,The Chief,The El Capitan,etc,etc......
Both the "Blue Comet" and the "Phoebe Snow" are little known outside of Northeast regional area.
Both trains have been suggested to Walters in the past, with no luck,Just a"will consider it" thank you in response.

The big detraction of ever doing most of the famous passenger trains of the Northeast is that they were headed up by unique steam engines, not common post-war diesels like the F-3's or similar. Walthers is definitely unwilling to create new tooling for examples of steam locomotives not already available, or applicable to use on many other trains, because of the expense involved. Tooling for a new G-3 CNJ steamer with its Wooten firebox, for example, would surely push the price for a complete trainset to probably over $1,500 ...in plastic no less! That's way too rich for today's hobbyists and admittedly such a trainset is available in brass for very little more. Same would be true for the Reading's unique Crusader and a number of others from the steam era.

Well,Walters has started the "PRE-ORDER" process, for their next train, the 1960 version of "The City of Los Angles" that ran on MILW and UP
between Chicago and LAUPT via Ogden and Salt Lake City Ut and Las Vegas(Lost Wages)Nv.
Pair of E-8's an A and B unit with Loksound decoders, some cars are possible reruns of cars in the Biz fleet with the Dome Diner and Dome Lounge,
and "Pine series" Sleepers.

IF Walters had stayed on east coast trains trend, the SCL Silver Meteor or the Southern Crescent would have been possibilties.
