Now the fun begins. They are supposed to go through road tests as they get back.

Not sure this is the right thread, but from an older thread,

"Caught 2411 this Sunday from Lincoln to Concord. The HEP on 1125 almost shut down, and belched a huge cloud of smoke and noise, RIGHT NEXT TO ME as it was approaching the station! The whole ride to Concord, the lights flickered twice, and departing Concord, it sounded awful. Turbo whine was in there too. The CDTR (Dale) told me that the mechanics would check it out in Fitchburg, b/c it was supposed to be the first morning train there (404). I heard not long ago, the 1125 had a HEP fire. Sratch it from serivce, NOW!"

Will this be the next unit for top-deck?

I certainly did not expect 1118 and 1132 to come back at the same time. I would think that a business that rebuilds locomotives would prefer a more evenly distributed delivery schedule to keep their work force busy.

Whoops!

Well the 1132 went out with the 1124 on No.129 yesterday and
promptly experienced some "issues".

The 1118 was supposed to replace it this weekend.

Yikes...

So the 1132 didn't have to operate independently on a test train for preliminary acceptance? Seems like some stuff specified in the RFP is being bypassed.

Is anything else being released to go to AMP?

The 1131 is on deck to go to AMP...

The 1118 is performing okay tonight...so far!

BTW, the 1063 is behaving real badly on the
Southside. Yesterday and today. So expect them
to foist it on the Northside soon!

Coach 616 is also being prepped to go out for
repairs..

Whew, glad to hear the 1131 is going away, thought we'd have to suffer with it on the north side forever!

Glad the 1118 is performing okay. But if I say it's performing alright, it'll probably die sooner or later.

Any word on the 1116 and 1119?

Off topic, but what specifically is wrong with the 1063?

The 1116 & 1119 were shipped 5/07 to AMP for the
roadswitcher modifications project. Not a peep has
been heard since. I imagine they will get the top-deck
treatment while they are out there.

The 1063, I hear, has "excessive" wheel slip problems.
My moles down south tell me it barely got off the
platform at S.Station last night, backed in, then made
it as far as Readville. Tonight they made it to Back Bay.
Or vise-versa. Heck, the 1067 was getting lonely out
back at BET!

I am still mystified by how the "flow" of the GP40MC top deck overhaul program works. You would think AMP would need some more or less equal time interval between the units in order to keep their work force busy.

If I recall 1063 came back from rebuilding around 2002 so it should be just about ready for an engine overhaul by now.

Wow, 1063, 1118, and 1132 all in one day!

As expected, the 1063 got shoved north. It was on the 2466 tonight @ Lincoln. He was cycling the throttle as he was coming in, and shortly after he notched out, I heard a weird screeching noise, and he backed all the way off to 1, accelerating very slowly. 1118 came in on the 2411, and the two front engine doors were open, exposing the turbocharger and the main generator. Then the 2412 passed through with the 1132. Albeit looking good repainted, it was pretty loud, i think the main generator. The HEP on both units were really loud, as is expected on most GP40MCs.

A response to an earlier post, a locomotive (1063) rebuilt as recently as 2002 would not need a major engine overhaul, unless it has all the original prime mover parts from 1987. Out of curiosity, even though slightly off topic, but what was done to the F40PH-2Cs and Ms during their rebuilds at Boise besides being repainted?

I didn't realize they were coming home with new skins :P.. Did you happen to see if they were re-fixed with AAR control stands or do they still have their desktops?
