Pertaining to all railroading subjects, past and present, in New York State.

Thats good to know Otto. I didn't know the L&HR used it until 1976.

Regarding those topographical maps, it is hard to tell, but
was there ever a direct connection between the Erie (Graham line)
and Maybrook? It doens't look like it. It looks like NYOW at Cambell Hall junction had a connection to Maybrook, and that at Campbell Hall
the Graham line connected to the Erie line going north to Montgomery
(old Walkill Valley??), but that from the Erie you couldn't get to Maybrook.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks, JS

Also, just out of curiosity, how did the NH extract their equipment from Maybrook after the Pok Bridge fire? Up to Selkirk, and back down? Float? Anyone recall? Thanks in advance...

First off when the PO bridge burned the NHRR no longer existed and hadn't
for over 5 years. Penn Central owned all of the Maybrook Yard as well as
the trackage to Campbell Hall and east to Poughkeepsie and further.
After the bridge fire, the only Penn Central way out of Maybrook was over
the former New York Central Wallkill Valley Branch to Kingston and the
River Line to Selkirk.

I think we covered this ground earlier. A lot of these questions can be answered by going back and reading through the thread. The subject of this thread was converting the land into an intermodal terminal. If you'd like to start a historical conversation, please start a new topic.

In the interests of the discussion about converting the land into an intermodal terminal, and to better visualize the railroads in the area, today and historically, as they relate to the discussion about converting the land into an intermodal terminal, I made the following map:

(sorry Otto! ;) I just feel the map also belongs here..I really dont care that you moved it..no biggie.)

(I didnt know you were also making an Orange county map!)

There was and still is a switch from the line to Montgomery that goes to Maybrook. It is just north of where the diamond was for the O&W. You can just see the stand from Rte 207 where it crosses the line. Follow Erie Street along the tracks, and when it makes a hard right, you're at the site of the diamond.

Yes, thank you. You can see it really well at http://mapper.acme.com
Go to Campbell Hall, NY and then use the "DOQ" option on the top right, whatever that means, for the picture, and the Topo option.
