Market-Frankford Line branch marked by Google Earth?

Postby MaRoFu » Tue Jun 27, 2017 10:16 am

I've recently been on a project to mark every single rail line in New Jersey (abandoned ones included) on Google Earth, but I have also found something bizzare.

Google Earth has marked some rail branch heading off of SEPTA's Market-Frankford Line and into New Jersey. The supposed rail line ends near City Hall station. I'm not sure whether this was some mistake or this is actually some branch that went to Camden at one point. In the screenshot, you can notice the marked track heading off of the Market-Frankford Line south of 2nd Street station, where it crosses the Delaware River into Camden.

I've tried to look for more info on this, but I have failed to find anything, besides the fact that PATCO was in charge of repairing portions of the Market-Frankford Line. Anyone else know anything at all about this?

Looks like it is indicating the never built DRPA Tramway between Philly and Camden.

MRF: I agree with TT here in that the proposed DRPA Tramway route was noted by Google Earth.
There is an unused abutment for the Tram noticeable at Penn's Landing.

PATCO/DRPA once directly connected with the Broad-Ridge Spur north of the 8/Market Station.
DRPA never had anything to do with the MFSE - they are different track gauges for starters.

Can you share the link or KML file for this? I would love to see this.

Not to mention the dimensions are different as well (M.F. 9'X55' vs. 10"X67.5').

Here's the KMZ file... There are some parts where I assumed, but other than that it's mostly accurate.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qhdz6tvv3qqdoi5/Train%20Lines%20In%20NJ%20%28incomplete%29.kmz?dl=0

Also, this file should fill i the gaps you notice in the above KMZ file:

And this one (not mine)

I wasn't expecting this to be released into the public, hence all the files. Sorry for the inconvenience.
