An Amtrak Accela broke down early in the morning today at New Carrolton, causing havoc in both directions. I ended up taking a 75-min late MARC 404 instead of a canceled MARC 406 to work today. There was some other issues along the WAS-BAL corridor as well that I don't know too much about.
I ride the (MTA Maryland) Penn Line (between Odenton and Baltimore). I used to work for MTA Maryland's IT department, and out of professional courtesy my responses may be limited. Wikimapia is wonderful (for track/interlocking locations)!

Any reasons why Palmetto is late coming into Baltimore going Southbound? Silver Meteor is running more than an hour Northbound also.

CARROL interlocking went pearshaped and there was some junk on the track when MARC 401 was running on it. They had to reverse to BOWIE and go 3 to 2 until LANDOVER. Tracks were cleared and switch repaired late morning.

I jumped on a 10-ish min running late MARC 404 myself at Odenton, which was a good idea. But I miss the coffee. :(

A friend of mine rode train 29 (26) from WAS to CHI and returned on train 30 (02) from CHI to WAS. He said:

Train 29 (26): A fire started underneath one car, apparently from dried leaves trapped between disc brake pads and rotors. Crew put out the fire using hand held fire extinguishers. Rest of westbound trip was uneventful. I think he said arrival at CHI was about a half-hour late.

Train 30 (02): Equipment backed into Chicago Union Station from yard later than expected and announced. Arrival of equipment in the station was about 15 minutes prior to the 6:40 PM scheduled departure.

Departure from CHI was approximately 7 minutes late due to unsuccessful attempt to connect HEP to rear car (private car 800644 WARRIORS REST, former PRR HENRY HUDSON) in consist. Deadheading PV was noted to be dark and empty - hopefully the car's plumbing system did not freeze without HEP during the trip.

Lost about 2 hours in the vicinity of Toledo due to air brake system problem, allegedly ruptured air hose.

Arrived at Washington Union Station 2 hours 19 minutes late.

#6 (3) passed here over 2 HL with only ONE engine. I must wonder where the other "crapped". Hopefully this side of Denver.

Anyone know if there was a track or signal issue south of GROVE today on the NEC? MARC was very slow today until we hit that interlocking and I assume Amtrak as well.

Does anybody know what happened on the STL Corridor to these trains of the 10th:

#303 lost 3' 15" CHI to JOL and another 4' 15" JOL to SPI; and

#306 shows no times, possibly annulled?
