NEWS PHOTOS of Blizzard Ops/Shut Down

Postby Otto Vondrak » Fri Feb 13, 2015 11:54 am

Hi All-

I'm looking for news photos of MBTA operations and shut downs during the recent (and coming) blizzard weather Boston has been experiencing. Trains running in snow, trains slogged down in snow, plows trying to plow snow, etc. I'm looking for commuter rail, rapid transit, and trolley (green line). I can only consider a couple of photos for my news section, so please only send me your "A" material to consider. You can email me previews and links to otto at railfan.com - thanks! Compensation upon publication...

Deadline is Thursday 2/19. Thanks!

Bugs Bunny took a left turn at Albuquerque and ended up on the Worcester Line.

Right at this exact spot: http://goo.gl/maps/V2I9u. Little bit west of Corner, signal heads at the exact halfway point between the Church St. and Lewis Terrace overpasses. You can sort of see the stair railings for the MoW entrance off Washington poking just barely above the snow.

Newton Corner, by former Aquinas (Junior) College campus. You can see the 7.1 & 7.2 markings on the signal lights, so about MP 7.1. That's Newton Corner. Neat how you can switch to parallel street in street view!

What's the Vegas line on if this loco is sitting in the dead line awaiting rebuilt motors and whatever else fails after ingesting snow for 10 (or more) miles? Wonder if Keolis / MBTA is second guessing the decision to use front line equipment to clear snow...

Well...it took like 5 minutes of watching it on loop but I'm pretty sure that's a 2C and not a Geep.

The hilarious thing is less- power-strained Amtrak still isn't messing around. I was standing on the St. Mary's St. bridge a week ago today and saw the Lake Shore Limited pass outbound with a two-P42 lashup--both fully powered--pulling a single baggage car and single half-empty Amfleet. This weeks after the line was sufficiently plowed down to bare snowpack (which is still literally up the top of the rail level). I guess they duly golf-clap at the T's brave sacrifice of all its operable equipment.
