New 2014 Blue Book

Postby TrainManTy » Thu Oct 02, 2014 12:33 pm

I'm not sure exactly when it came out (the cover says July 2014) but I stumbled across a new version of the Blue Book!

For those that are unaware, the Blue Book is an official report put out by the MBTA covering infrastructure and ridership statistics across rapid transit, light rail, commuter rail, bus, and ferry operations. The previous version was in 2010.

I haven't compared any of the statistics to the 2010 book, but the new edition includes track maps of all rapid transit and light rail lines. Neat stuff!

Very interesting document! Thanks for posting URL.

The Mattapan line track schematic is interesting - I always thought the line was just a loop squashed into a double track RoW with a few switches at the Mattapan end for a servicing/storage yard but I see now there's a diamond there, too. Looks just like a model RR layout.

It's also incorrect - it's still showing the center platform that was eliminated when Mattapan Station was rebuilt.

Interesting to see how even though it was under construction in July, Assembly (square) station was not added to the map.

A fascinating document with a great deal of information. I wish that New York's MTA would publish such a document. Thank you for posting it.

I wonder how much of a boost Wood Island got from having the Winthrop buses rerouted there due to the Orient Height construction.

The fitting title for the Blue Book should be "Everything You Wanted To Know About The MBTA But Were Afraid To Ask".
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
