Should we have a board meet up before the station opens?

Seems appropriate to the occasion, but I will be at work unless they so a soft opening sometime Monday or Tues AM.

I think I heard the station will be open at the start of service Tuesday, even though the ribbon cutting won't be until the afternoon.

Are there any signs of a soft opening today? On the bus side of the MBTA they noted that some buses began their "Sept 1st" schedule change on Aug 31, so there's a precedent for anticipating the Sep 2 opening.

I took a look from train 162 as we went over the Mystic River a few minutes ago. I didn't see any customers on the platform, but from the Eastern Route you can't really see the inbound Assembly platform. It's unlikely there would be very much outbound ridership in the AM on the first day. :-)

Don't look to the real-time data for Assembly yet. So far it's not showing up:

Assembly is open for passengers, according to this report:
http://www.archboston.org/community/sho ... tcount=258
Just had my first stop at Assembly. At least a dozen T employees but didn't see a single passenger board or exit. They all seemed honestly excited and kept looking up and down the train to see if anyone was exiting the train.

I don't mean that as a slam. It's still really early and I wasn't expecting a large crowd or passengers, but it was kinda funny.

I couldn't see anybody but T employees from my inbound Newburyport train either. I might pop over there after work today and check it out.

I am at assembly square. There are a few confused people here who think they are at Wellington. Beverly Scott was on my train. She, and a bunch of MBTA management got off

As a symbolic gesture, governor Patrick and VIPs will be riding the orange line back to Boston. There are new Charlie gates of a different style in appearance and sound than the rest of the system at assembly station. When I get those photos and footage edited, I'll post in the charliecard thread.

Yes I did of course visit Assembly Station on the first day. :-)

Quick notes:

- great design, great layout, great benches and enclosed waiting areas. Lots of glass, but lots of cracked window panes! (I lost count after 10.)

- it's got that "new station smell" (too bad we won't get the "new car smell" until 2022)

- the platform design looks like it's going to be a problem!!! The platform is dead flat (to my eye) and there are no floor drains anywhere! At that point (6:50 PM) there was as much as 1/4 inch of standing water on the platform over most or all of the inbound side. There were three men with brooms and squeegees pushing water into the track pit. Yes it was a downpour earlier but it this does not bode well!
