Northallerton is well inland. I'd have expected the trouble to be north of Newcastle. Near Berwick-upon-Tweed the line is on a bluff above the ocean.

TR,JVBV and Everyone: This incident was caused by high wind gusts literally ripping off the locomotive's pantograph...

This type of problem sometimes happens on electrified lines with overhead catenary - any wire damage was not mentioned in the article...

Pantographs are designed to "break away" to try and minimize damage to the equipment and the wires - I hear about "wires down" more then
pantograph damage...

This would not affect the MBTA - with the noteable exception of the Amtrak electrified Providence Line...

Beautiful old rail bridge too, the Royal Border Bridge. And it is very windy.
