Changing a Genset power unit is about as quick and easy as changing a HEP set, because they are just about the same size and weight as the HEP sets, and we all know just how quick and easy that is (usually not). Then there is the inevitable unavailability of service spares after the original capital spare engines have been used. When you need an engine, sometimes none are available. They are either at the repair shop or waiting for paperwork to be sent out to get repaired. We have seen all of this before. Remember the Detroit Diesel 110s in the RDC's? They were supposed to be quick and easy to change, too. Remember the piles of dead Detroit Diesels stashed all around the B&M? There were even a bunch of them in one of the old buildings at East Deerfield. I guess we have to re-invent these ideas every couple of decades and learn the lessons all over again.

What is the status of the NRE 3GS21B units. Are they being used or OOS?

Only one of them is in use. Both were being stored out back for a spell at BET
last month. Think the 3248 got stationed in Worcester.
