1930s NYC to Boston

Postby palamon1990 » Wed Oct 29, 2014 9:35 pm

Hi everyone,

History question . . . wondering if anyone might know which NYC Grand Central train would have arrived in Boston around 3:00 PM in 1935. I have ruled out the Merchants Limited, which departed NYC at 5:00 and the Yankee Clipper, which departed at 1:00.

Thanks for any help.

I don't have any Official Guides from close enough to 1935, but in later years the Bay State left GCT at 10:00 am and in 1935 it might have arrived in Boston at 2:30 or so, certainly not before 2:15.

Hi
The two trains you are asking about ran on the New Haven Shore Line route, Not the B&A ,,Pat

Following is from employee timetable no. 128, dated September 29, 1935: Train 10 (The Bay State) left Grand Central Terminal at 10:00 AM and arrived South Station at 3:00 PM. No trans in this timetable made it in less than 4 and one half hours. The top speeds were lower too; nothing higher than 70 MPH anywhere between New Haven and Boston.
