Maine Central RS-11s - MEC 801 & 802

Postby CN9634 » Fri Jun 22, 2007 8:35 am

Hey guys. My Dad picked up the new Atlas RS11's painted MEC 801 and 802 yesterday. Dang are they fine! For those of you who are hobbists, the 801 and 802 were released long ago, but were quickly a rare item! A few years ago, Atlas redid there RS-11 models and released a Green MEC 801 and 802 (Which we have as well). Now, they've re-released the Yellow 801 and 802 and boy let my tell you, they're beautiful! I'll grab some pictures but in the mean time, check this out!

Next thing coming is the Intermountain U18B's!! :-D

Saw them this week at Maine Modelworks, and they are great!

Best thing about the "real" 801 and 802 is that they
were NEVER desecrated in Guilford Gray!

Maine Central RS-11 Trust plate

Postby wseamo1 » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:03 pm

Does anyone know the bank or financial institution that financed Maine Centrals RS-11s? Better yet,
does anyone have a good image of the trust plate. I cannot find any information on the trust plate.

Speaking of the MEC RS-11s, here is a nice photo from 1981 by Chuck Schwesinger:

Does either locomotive still exist?

According to several web sites, 802 was scrapped in 1984 at the D&H shop in Colonie. However, Bill Gingrich (curator of the GuilfordRailSightings locomotive rosters) states that 802 was sold in 1988 and scrapped later that year. Bill also states that 801 was scrapped at Colonie in 1989.

Wasn't at least one of them originally Portland Terminal?

According to this web page, the second unit was originally built as PTM 1082 and then changed to MEC 802 five months later.

Here's a great shot of 802, appearing to be fresh out of the paint booth, in 1981:

Interestingly, in this shot it doesn't have the green roof that it had in subsequent years. I guess they added that later...?

Here's a picture of 802 in the Bath area, 30 June 1964; RJ-1/JR-2. My father was the engineer. That's me in the cab.

Here's a shot from the fireman's seat, looking toward the Bridge in Bath.

Very nice photo of the 802 in the spring '16 issue of TRP, ( #6), on newsstands right now.
