Last Segment Of Double Track Connected.

The last stretch of the double tracking project is connected south of the Ft.Lauderdale Station.A ballast train has been working the high bridge along with a tamper and ballast regulator. They are donig it in a way I have not seen before. Using one of those back hoes that climbs up and rides along the top cord of the ballast hoppers. The ballast train is pulled by 2-GE8 40C Ws and must stop on the bridge riser for the back hoe to do its work. The grade is so steep,(Bridge rises 40+ feet in less than a mile for ocean going sail boats and yatchs to pass)that the train must back up and get a run at it before it can reposition for the next section.

Tri-Rail will be suffering more delays this week as the track and bridge
work continue. Here is a link to the article from the Sun-Sentinel.

Effective today, Tri-Rail started using the new double track, high level
bridge over the New River at Fort Lauderdale.
The three trains that were temporarily suspended have been put back on.
I suspect there still may be some delays due to the ongoing track work.
Very small piece in the Sun-Sentinel but not worth posting on here.

That's good news. Is there any indication that Tri-Rail is taking traffic off the I-95 monster?!

Get real! When gas is $10 a gallon, maybe; meanwhile get out of the way of those single-occupancy SUVs.

Actually there is still one little piece of Tri-Rail that is single track, a
drawbridge just north of the Miami Airport station is single track and I do
not think there is any plans to change this anytime soon. I think it is part
of the interlocking system for the station as well and I do not think there
is any need to change the track layout at that location. There are two
station tracks at Miami Airport station though.
