Silverliner V Introduction Event

Postby Clearfield » Tue Sep 09, 2008 8:55 pm

SEPTA will be celebrating the arrival of the new Regional Rail car shell on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at 3:00 p.m.

A mock-up of the Silverliner V car will be displayed to the public, and a press conference will be held at SEPTA's Roberts Yard Rail Facility.

What's the precise spot where the mockup will be be available up-close-and-personal to the public? I'd like to go join tomorrow's party and see the "wave of the future" myself as well as take pictures. If I can swing it, I'd take a train to Wayne Jct. and proceed on foot. Advice, please?

Where can you enter into the facility to view the car?

I just called a few up at Septa and they havent even heard about this tomorrow, so yeah talk about short notice>haha. Well if you decide to walk from Wayne to the Roberts Ave yard facility its a pretty good walk around the corner from Wayne Jct and its just about all up hill and I wouldnt really advise it. I personally dont feel comfortable walking around there.Of course Im not proposing anyone just walking into a rail yard to begin with without actually knowing more about this celebration. It may just be for guest and news. The public was only suppose to see these cars at Suburban Station where viewing was easy and safe.Of course clearfirld did say the public but does that mean everyone? I may try to be there although I already saw the car the other week in Wayne Electric....

Any updates today?
Why doesn't the Cash for Clunkers program apply to the ancient Silverliner II/III's? Because even THEY get better than 18 mpg.

I just passed roberts yard and am happy to report hat this is CONFIRMED! I do not have a camera on me, but it looks like the event was by invite only since the folks in attendance were all dressed up and wearing nametags. I did see a few banners and tent but could not read them from a moving train. the unfinished end was wrapped in a tarp with the septa logo on it. I wouldn't be surprised if John Almeida or Bob Vogel post pictures tomorrow.

Thank goodness I did not go. I would have gone striaght after school. I would not be surpirsed if they stuck 1/3 of the car into the station with the unpainted side facing the wall.

Thamks for the info everybody

It will most likely end up in front of or next to the SEPTA caboose. (Track 5/6 I believe)

It was a by invitation only event. The car will be on public display downtown in early October.

You know as well as I do that we'll see it before it even goes on display. The railarazzi always find a way to get around the armed guard, through a locked gate, and into these things. I think I'm gonna look for pictures tomorrow.
