Still don't think it's back that's why the NS unit is still on the wire train.

Probably needed a part they have to wait for & it just compounded from that, plus the rebuild process at a ot of places these days is in full swing with some power shortages due to an uptick in freight traffic, especially petro-trains. I'm sure we will see it back sometime this year if ever.

Uhh, two years for RFP and rebuild of a small switcher? They're delayed due to a small part?

Hey Pete, did that new part show up for that SEPTA engine yet?

Yea, I used it on that Petrol Locomotive. Go find a spare part out back.

NPL: Interesting choice of photographs here - two Amtrak SDP40F's (596,605) out for scrap during the later 70s probably...
It amazes me even today how fast these locomotives fell out of favor in Amtrak service once their tracking problems surfaced...
SDP40F's would have been too large for any SEPTA Diesel service...

The 50 is still waiting to be completed according to the WJ superintendent. I don't know what the issue may be as to why it isn't being worked on.

That was the reason why it was sent out, we got federal money to make it more emissions friendly. The down side is the prime mover must be destroyed as part of the deal. Its a shame, it could have been used to up-grade the 60 or 61 to 1500 hp. If prior history repeats we should have lots of fun (trouble) getting it to run as intended once its on property.

Ah, so it was a kind of "cash for clunkers" deal?

Where is the new prime mover coming from?

I say, trade in the 50 as a down payment for a REAL EMD that can pull 7 coaches.

Spec sheet shows it's 15'6".

isn't that a normal Plate "C" dimension?

Why would they need that, diesels are only used when they need rescuing, need more power send more engines, the bad thing about 50 is that it will become another odd ball with specific parts that won't be stocked.

S269: That answer is NO - Back before the 4-month Railworks construction shutdown (June-September) in 1993 SEPTA looked at leasing
at least one F40PH from Amtrak for use on the peak-hour through diesel trains to 30th Street - Amtrak F40PH 413 (a former GO Transit unit)
was selected and during clearance testing between 30th Street Station and the 21st Street tunnel portal struck and shorted out the low
catenary wire on that stretch of track...SEPTA was going to swap one of the AEM7s for this unit for that period and after that happened
F40 413 was returned to Amtrak...What ended up happening was SEPTA leased two NJT U34CH units (4154,4158) for that period instead...

I thought that the Summer 2002 Rail Power Project replacing all wires in the 30th Street Station - Suburban Station area would result in
increased overhead clearances - instead I believe the same clearances were kept-precluding the use of F40 units through the CC Tunnel...
