New Look of GP40PH-2

Postby NortheastTrainMan » Thu Aug 20, 2009 6:51 pm

I'd like to know what other people think of it. I personally like it but I hope it's not the whole fleet because the Disco Stripes are special.

I like trains and operations mainly on the east coast but also all over the U.S. and the world!

We are already discussing it here:

But I will say it looks good.

How would anybody know that a thread titled "Dead line moved to Hoboken - 2006" was discussing the new GP40 paint scheme?
Thanks to NortheastTrainMan for posting the information with a title that made me look.

Yea, I glossed over it on the other thread as well. How did NJT come up with this scheme as their new corporate logo/colors? How many have their been now. Wasn't there a white disco scheme early on, then a more silver grey.. now this one. Not bad looking the new scheme is.
I also like the idea of heritage units to preserve our great RR history

So does this mean the GP40's aren't being retired after all?

I doubt they are retiring engines that are only 15 years old.

I thought the GP40's were the oldest of NJT's fleet, dating back to the 1960's.

The 4200s got a complete rebuild in the early '90s from CR freight units to replace U34s.

I assume the GP40s will remain in service at least until the arrival of the ALP-45DPs is complete which is not for quite a few years. With that said, they want to unify the aesthetic of the fleet in the meantime. Plus, with all of the possible service expansions in the future, having extra units available is never a bad thing.

Perhaps the ex-CNJ units will be retired, and (maybe 4145-4150) when the dual modes arrive, but probably not the 4200's.
