Old Boonton Line/Orange Branch Restoration

I'm surprised NJT is even committing a study for restoring these lines. How will they get anything done with the Orange Branch anyways if the Newark Light Rail takes up a part of it? And isn't it expensive to maintain the bridges that are now in even worse disrepair than before? Plus there's a trail being planned for this line, too. Looks like NJT is trying to see if the lines can be of anymore use before they permanently leave it.

Probably some local politician is pushing for restoration and the easy way to shut them up is to begin a study. By the time the study is completed it is so old that it is unusable and if another politician asks then anew study is begun. This is definitely a waste of money, but is likely necessary in order for NJT to keep the support of a few politicos. Service will never come back on either of these. While I do not object to preserving the right of way just in case, it is absurd to think that the state and NJT have the money to bring anything to fruition. There are so many projects that are higher priority.

Hm, I read it more like NJT wants busways and future LRT connections, not railroads.

By the way there’s already a topic on this: viewtopic.php?f=69&t=166935
