PERTH AMBOY - NJ Transit plans to replace the old and frail drawbridge across the mouth of the Raritan River with a "lift" bridge, which would allow trains to travel as fast as 60 mph!

The print article was full of errors! Like current bridge has a 25 foot wide channel which is actually the channel depth!
This link has a lot more information http://njtransitresilienceprogram.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Raritan_River_Public_Info_Session_FINAL_SEPT_2016.pdf

Wow, 60mph! What will they think of next? Jet planes, transistor radios, color TV? Maybe one day we'll even put a guy into space!

Probably has more to do with the curvatures and proximity of stations on either end of the bridge, rather than the design of the bridge. This seems especially true on the south end where there is a wye followed immediately by the South Amboy station. Can't see them breaking any speed records between Perth and South Amboy even if the bridge was fitted with constant tension catenary, ballastless track, and pin-straight orientation.

River Draw is the same age as Portal.
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
