NJT Police Officer video saving trespasser instant B4 train

Postby Ken W2KB » Sun Aug 28, 2016 10:28 am

At Secaucus Junction: https://youtu.be/tDW-JKg-M9w

As reported in today's news. The police officer pulled the trespasser off the track a second or two before the train passed.

No, the man was suicidal. I don't think he was trying to take the officer, too, but I could be wrong. Desperate people do desperate things, as is made obvious by this whole incident.

But one hell of a job, Officer Ortiz! I wish people could see more videos of officers doing thier jobs and saving lives and not just the times when things go wrong.

Train looked like it was moving fast. Did engineer not see what was happening from far end of platform and attempt to brake?

This happened in the afternoon, and it appears to have been toward the east end of the platform. That means that train was probably a deadhead getting in place for rush hour, and thus, not stopping. Track speed in SEC is 90 mph, and if the engineer saw it from the other end of the platform, he still wouldn't have been able to stop in time, it does look like the train is slowing down in the video, so it probably stopped right outside the station.

You are wrong...it happened at 7:28ish in the morning. The train was not a deadhead. It happened at the east end of track 2. Train was also not doing MAS before the air was dumped, traffic at that time of the morning doesn't allow for it.

Ortiz thought he was. “I saw the train rapidly approaching and in an instant I said to myself: ‘I’m going to have to let this guy go because... he’s going to take me with him,'” http://www.insideedition.com/headlines/ ... rain-comes

Officer Ortiz was recognized for his heroic efforts by being awarded the Carnegie Medal by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.

A New Jersey Transit police officer who rescued a man from the tracks at the Secaucus Junction station moments before a train arrived last year has received a national heroism award.

Victor R. Ortiz, 41, of Union, is one of 19 recipients of the Carnegie Medal, awarded by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission on Monday to people who risk their lives while attempting to save the lives of others.
