Conrail puts the River Line in the bag. Below copied from the NJT website.
"RiverLINE Service is experiencing 15 min residual delays northbound due to an earlier derailed Conrail train near Fieldsboro. Southbound service is on or close to schedule."

A truck knocked down the wires at a crossing west of Matawan this morning. Buses called.
It must have been a shocking experience for the truck driver.

Well it is "Friday" after all.
Why do we drive on parkways and park in driveways?

Apparently there were trees down on wires in both Morris Plains AND Bernardsville this morning, so both M&E Lines were severely delayed.

3318, Bay Head to New York, was cancelled this morning at Middletown after hitting a deer and braking the airline assembly off the front of the ALP45. The engineer hammered a plug into the hole, so the train could move, but Amtrak wouldn't have taken it, so it went back to Long Branch for repair. Damage to trains occasionally happens when they hit deer.

Groundhog day? Another week, another derailed train at NYPS blocking all service.

Friday, April 14' Transit train lost power in one of the Hudson River tunnels. It was stuck there for two or three hours with 1200 unhappy riders. Things in Penn station got exciting when Amtrak police tasered an unruly individual, and people thought that shots had been fired. Naturally a lot of them dropped their luggage and headed for the exits.
NJT announced that the problem was caused by a power failure in the overhead wire, and Amtrak says that it was caused by a defective pantograph on the train. Who'se right?

There were >30 minute delays on Friday morning, the 24th. That evening there were outbound train cancellations with express trains running local to make up the stops. I saw delays on DV all weekend.

This morning there were 30 minute delays in and out of NYP.

April has been terrible.

Somebody pulled the emergency cord on 3217 at Middletown this morning. The crew had the person arrested. The train lost twenty minutes.
All this info via my scanner.
Amtrak has a train broken down in New York again this morning. NJT is announcing forty-five minute delays. I would suggest banning Amtrak trains from the NEC, at least in New Jersey, due to their frequent breakdowns; but NJT trains do it too.

Some of our delays are caused by Amtrak doing track work in Penn Station, New York, which seems like a good idea.

Apparently theyre semi-permanent.

Due to ongoing Amtrak track maintenance work and track inspections leading to speed restrictions, effective immediately and continuing until further notice, NJT customers traveling to and from NYPS will experience estimated delays of 15 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends.

NEC, NJCL, RVL and MidTown Direct trains are subject to up to 40-minute delays, and expected to escalate, due to Amtrak overhead wire problems between the yard and PSNY in East River Tunnel. Rail tickets/passes will be cross-honored on NJT & private carrier buses, and PATH at NPS, HOB and 33rd St.

File this one under future delays.

Amtrak officials on Thursday announced a "series of major track and switch renewal projects" which they say will make Penn Station "more efficient, safe and better able to serve its passengers."

The program will cost tens of million of dollars, said Amtrak CEO Charles Moorman. It comes with another price, however, by way of delays and the potential of closed tracks and canceled trains that Moorman said will mostly be confined to the summer.
