Apologies if I am misunderstanding, but do you mean that the F40s were both hooked up to a revenue train? If so, wouldn't this be the first time they've been used in revenue service in a few years?? Thanks.

No they’re were spotted on a dead head from High Bridge probably en route to the MMC.

Understood. Thank you!

I'm also noticing 8-car MLs are also using a second cab car, right behind the locomotive. A surplus?

No surplus, but it has a restroom,at present, there's a shortage of cars due to the PTC(ACSES)installs with a built in software glitch,
that's keeping cab cars OOS!

3224 is running with a Multilevel set as pulled by 4654 opposed to the usual Comet set. I hope it stays that way as 3224 gets overcrowded especially where I get on at Matawan.

Quite a bit of action on the NJCL in the past 24 hours...
MM-08 went to Bay Head last night with the F40s
4302 went to RARE this morning for some unknown reason
The TGIV ran from GRAW to Bay Head and back this morning

2313's set:

PL42AC 4021
Comet IV Cab 5015
Comet V Cab 6029
Comet IV 5579
Comet V 6044

It's a nice oddball set.

NJ Rail 5746

Postby joesirr » Thu Mar 08, 2018 5:36 pm

A few times today I've heard a NJ Rail dispatcher calling train 5746, once in Lebanon, on Coastline freq-161.235. Is this normal? I usually listen after 10 pm so not familiar with daytime runs. Thanks, Joe.

That was the Raritan Line dispatcher. The Coastline freq is also shared with Raritan, though Raritan rarely talks.

I guess it's because they don't have to deal with Long Branch, Bay Head and Conrail in Perth Amboy/South Amboy and crossing swing and lift bridges. (4 of 'em!) :-)

GP40 4302 ran west through Belmar about 11:30 Friday night SHF by itself. Ran east later, LHF, also by itself.

Great horn on the short end, long end horn rather nasty sounding.

I guess extra trains run with the red running lights on the forward end.
