Delays & Service Disruptions Tracker

Postby nomis » Mon Jan 26, 2015 12:15 am

In following suit with other forums on this site, here is a place to track abnormalities in service, and combine those that don't warrant their own threads per-se. Some major events, like this Jan 2015 Bluzzard warrant their own thread & should be cross linked accordingly.

Thread for Jan 26-27 Blizzard ...

Ps. I will unlock this thread on Tuesday.

There was a minor derailment in GCT tonight of a Gennie set on the 5:19 to Wassaic ...

Announcements Include:
New Haven Line Service continues to experience residual delays of 5 to 10 minutes due to congestion caused by a minor derailment in GCT that blocked train equipment. Please listen for announcements at your station. /// Because of a minor derailment in GCT that is blocking train equipment, there will be some canceled and combined trains on the New Haven Line during this evening's rush hour. Expect delays and crowded conditions. Please listen to station announcements or go to http://www.mta.info for the latest information.

Minor Derailment GCT and White Plains Yard

Postby Railhead » Thu Jan 29, 2015 7:34 am

http://7online.com/traffic/metro-north- ... al/495161/

It was a frustrating commute that started when the 5:19 to Wassaic somehow derailed, as it was pulling away from the platform.

No one was hurt and passengers were able to get right off, but it couldn't have happened in a more inconvenient spot.

"We had to do some fancy footwork in terms of reassigning tracks and combining trains," said Marjorie Anders, of the MTA.

The train marooned right in the path of nine other tracks, all of them usually used for the New Haven Line.

And with those platforms useless, the railroad was forced to delay departures and change track assignments, sending the hordes on a mad dash when trains were finally called.

"We're going to be working overnight to get train out of the way, fix the track, and of course investigate the cause," Anders said.

They have any idea yet as to what caused it?

Does anyone know what platform track the train departed from in Grand Central? None of the news articles have that information. Sounds like it was east of Track 30 if it mostly blocked New Haven trains.

Took train #6925 from Waterbury to Bridgeport this morning - ran right on the money - but things went downhill from there. Connecting train #6425 from New Haven arrived at Bridgeport and was cancelled at that point. An announcement was made that due to wire damage further down the line, the number of trains were being reduced. Several minutes later train #6525 came along and picked up all passengers. We made it to Southport, where we were held for about 25 minutes, waiting for eastbound traffic to clear. Continuing on, we passed a train of M-8's stopped just east of Walk bridge, with the top of one pantograph missing. We eventually made it into GCT about 30 minutes late. On a side note, as we departed 125 Street, Genesis 225 was headed out from the tunnel with a maxi set. (Poughkeepsie bound?)

Hearing power issues at GCT and trains delayed in- and out-bound.

Does anyone have insight into the issue as it stands now - thank you.

Various news stations are reporting a substation -- maybe M42 in GCT -- lost power around 4:30 PM. It was restored by 5 PM but by then schedules were mixed up and delays up to 40 minutes were reported. They're still reporting residual delays of 10-15 minutes.

the power issue was ConEd related and had nothing to do with MN substation.

And apparently the power failure effected the terminal building, not the trains. Third rail power was maintained but service was stopped because of the lack of power and lights in the terminal itself. WABC News reported the terminal was not evacuated.
