Senators offer plan to oversee MBTA

Postby Teamdriver » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:47 am

" BOSTON -- Three state senators on Tuesday called for the creation of an independent control board to oversee the finances of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

The proposal was being offered as an amendment to an MBTA bailout bill by Republican leader Bruce Tarr of Gloucester and two Democrats who represent western Massachusetts districts outside of the T’s service area: Sen. James Welch of West Springfield and Sen. Gale Candaras of Wilbraham.''

I don't see how a board like this will solve anything. The T has a huge amount of debt that will not go away with a little cost cutting here and there.

With all due respect, the two Representatives from the western part of the state
would see another "control board" as a means to make sure that no revenue plans
involve costs to the residents outside the MBTA service area...

It's just politicing. They're not trying to accomplish anything other than 1) gain more power, 2) be reelected, 3) cater to special interests, and 4) create appoint-able positions for their buddies.
