Added CR Service for Red Closure

Postby Amtrak7 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 7:16 pm

This weekend, the Red Line will be bused Broadway-Kendall. The MBCR is providing some additional trains:

They did the same closure in March and in October. For those two, there was barely any attention given on the site beyond the advisories page and no mention of any additional CR service. Why?

Did you actually read the person's post or did you just post the first thing that came to mind when you read the title?

It was in an email alert I get for the red line. I quote" The Red Line is running substitute shuttle bus service between Broadway Station and Kendall Station due to Red Line scheduled maintenance.
Please allow additional time for your commute. Visit the website at www.mbta.com for further details.

Yes, I was only going on the information I knew. The mbta wouldn't provide extra commuter rail on a weekend for a shutdown between 2 stations.

It's a good idea to run extra Commuter Rail trains, and honor subway fares. But what's the point if they barely publicize it?

The press release at http://mbta.com/about_the_mbta/news_events/?id=24375 now mentions the extra Commuter Rail service. But even though it's dated April 14th, the original version didn't mention the Commuter Rail. Take a look at Google's cache and you'll see that info wasn't there on Thursday.

For a day with normal service, is there any way to get a combined Quincy or Braintree schedule, without having to look at the separate Greenbush and Middleboro/Lakeville-Kingston/Plymouth schedules?

I suppose it would also be too much to ask to have the weekend Middleboro/Lakeville schedule pages (like http://mbta.com/schedules_and_maps/rail ... I&timing=S ) mention that there are actually *no trains* on weekends all spring. Instead, it's your problem to check the service updates page. The schedule pages even say "There are no service updates at this time." A total weekend cancellation apparently counts as an "advisory" rather than an "update" or "alert".

Did anyone else take the South Station-Braintree shuttle? I got the 4:30 departure on Sunday, and talked to the conductor for a while. I was the only person on this trip, and apparently, he hadn't had a single trip with more than 3 people on it. He told me there were trips with the following amount of people: 3, 2, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1 (my trip). I only saw one advertisement for the shuttle service, at Braintree station, on the platform, but it didn't explicitly say there was a shuttle train. Also, it said you only needed to show your CharlieCard or CharlieTicket, which seemed right, because I bought a Zone 2 ticket, but the conductor told me to just keep it. I did manage to get pictures of BRAINTREE on the big destination board, and on the platform destination board, which was pretty cool. It was also pretty cool having a whole Commuter Rail train to myself as we blew past the packed Red Line trains to Braintree :-D. Quite a waste of money though, they really should've advertised this.
