New Kawasaki Coach Questions

Postby CSX Conductor » Wed Dec 29, 2004 11:20 am

Are all of these units bath-room equipped?

What is the seating arrangement, 2x2 or did they get the traditional 2x3?

Will these coaches be equipped for automatic door operation for the Old Colony lines?

I think it's the same seating arrangement, and thay all SHOULD have toilets, and I hope that most of them have Old Colony Automatic door operation, don't know about that one.

According to NE Transit, 5 of the coaches are being purchased by Rhode Island. My guess is that at least those 5 coaches would end up on the Providence Line. Many of the others will end up on Old Colony line.

I'd personally would like to see the coaches distributed across the lines that need them most ( Providenece / Worcester ) would seem reasonable given the higher ridership numbers.

Do you think those were purchased in exchange for the future extension to TF Green? Or just as a subsidy for the service that's already running?

Haven't heard anything on the extension to TF Green lately, but as of now Kawasaki's are still pohibited from being moved west of Providence.

OK, found out today, the four that arrived have old colony electric doors.
The question is how many will come like this, there is no way all 33 will be old colony, that would be a waste of bathroom equipped cars! Plus, all old colony trains have to run with a 1500 series car leading cause there are no 1700s equipped for the old colony. So there will be 2 bathrooms on those trains. The only reasoning I could see is that the new ones will be ADA compliant.

Maybe all the cars are going to have the electric doors activated, it's always a possibility.

The 1500's really did not need to be retrofitted for old colony, nor do the 1700's. The doors are not activated on the cab end, and the cab could be operated without auto doors by having a conductor in the 1+2 vestibule, then he/she could still control all the doors.
Hoping for a rebirth of the Screamer fleet.

Why does the Old Colony Line need electric doors? Are there any pictures of these coaches?

Never mind, I just saw the answer in the 'Total MBTA Trains' thread.

Thanks anyways.

Not all cars will have the doors activated, cause they cannot run on lines that dont have high levels. (Well not with out problems)
The 1500 cars that do run on the old colony have there doors activated, and there are no 1700s with that feature operating.

I dont see us getting 900s, but I do see us getting more wonderful 200 series cars :-\ and 500s :-( And MAYBE we will get some throw away 700s that have problems... The 900s will mean solid K car trains on the south side though, that will be neat!
