Sometimes, it's just plain FUN...

:-D

I got one of the biggest chuckles today. I was working a train and bringing in five car loads of families on the Haverhill line that were going to see the Disney show at the Fleet Center.

We lost head end power coming in ( yes ST 214 it was a GP-40 :( )

Well, speaking of grades on the commuter rail, when we started down the grade at Medford Jct (Wellington) and shot into the tunnel we "zipped" into the tunnel in total darkness. The tingle in their bellies from the down grade and the total darkness in the tunnel followed by the belly tingle of shooting up the grade out of the tunnel made them all break out into playful shrieks. They thought it was the greatest thing! They were all giggling and laughing as we shot out of the tunnel!

I have to say, I have never had so much fun with a group of kids on the train as I had today. "Can we do it again?" :-D

Probably the closest to the Polar Express that those kids got......minus the hot chocolate :(

Snoozer, can you put words on tickets as quickly as the conductor on Polar Express? LOL :P

Ok, everyone gather around and i'll tell the story of one summer night:-)

It was the last train out (11:00PM) on a summer's evening and i was 12. Me and my grandmother had made a trip that we had made several times before. We had gone in in the morning(On the first train) and were in the car directly behind the loco. Some older kid came up from the back, and asked me if he could go into the loco, and i told him no. Then, i looked in at the engine thru the coach window, and just that time, my view was obstructed by a man. He came into the coach, looked at me, and said "Do you want to ride in the engine??" I was elated!!!! He told me he just had to go back and check with the conductor, and he approved. Off we went, back out the rear door where the conductor was, and up the side of the train. I checked the loco #, and the number was 1012. As we got ready to go, he was explaining a few things to me, throttle, bell, brakes, horn, alertor. I didn't tell him that i ran a RS-1 at the age of 7(Maybe i should have??). We got going, and it was loud(Especially at Porter Square, where we were stopped underneath) but i loved it. Got to blow the horn all the way. Conductor called up and said no Littleton, and i got to make the visual call as to was there anyone at Littleton waiting to board. Man, those grills get in the way at a time like that. Was able to make the no call, correctly. Once we got to Fitchburg, we walked back thru the loco, and it was BIG to me at that time. Beautiful ride on a beautiful loco.

I might add that i have had numerous cab car rides before and since then, but that is my one and only loco ride on the MBTA.

Also, this cab ride was the first time i saw 2 things, one i love and one i hate-The 200 rebuilds(which i love), and still testing at that time, GP40MC 1115(I hate them, all of them EVIL!!!)

I also plan on doing everything in my power to save her from the scrappers torch. If i can save two, i will also save 1000, but i think someone else will have to save her. Who will step foward???
Hoping for a rebirth of the Screamer fleet.
