New Double Deckers Sighted in Transit

Postby David Hutchinson » Wed Dec 22, 2004 8:00 pm

Saw a northbound CSX mixed freight on the River Line today at North Bergen, NJ. Looked up to see the power, then looked away.... an employee said "look, a passenger train..." Spotted a few T double decker coaches, new, at the end of the consist. This was 4:30 PM, 12/22. Where are these cars made?

Not sure where they are being made but they will probably be stored on "the Short Connection", which is just outside of the locomotive servicing area @ Selkirk.

If I see any numbers I will post.

(They will probably not be blocked onto a train until Friday morning. They would most likely be put on Q420, which goes to work around 100PM and is a slug freight that has cars for Framingham & Beacon Park.....and won't get anywhere near here until way after sunset, so no pictures en-route, unless you are further out on the B&A guys.)

Are you going to take the delivery of these cars as a "Congradulations on becoming co-moderator of CSX Forum" gift, or as a Christmas gift? :P

Excellent I will have to keep an eye out for the new cars... The cars are being assembled in a Kawasaki plant which i believe is located in Lincoln Nebraska.

I believe they are built in Japan and final assembly in Yonkers,NY. I had heard the Nebraska plant was planned a few years ago, but never built.
Hoping for a rebirth of the Screamer fleet.

If you are correct, which I am not doubting, why would the cars be coming out of Jersey on the River-Line? I would think they would come over the Mohawk and then the B&A. Seems it wuld be more direct for them to come east fro Nebraska on the BNSF or UP to Chicago for interchange with CSXT.

If anyone knows when they are coming through, post it. I live right on the csx boston line and would love to be on the trackside when they roll through. Do they look any different then the current ones?

Well guys no sign of them in Selkirk yesterday, maybe the rinch sent them west towards Chicago :(

Nothing to be seen in Beacon Park either.

They might have still been in Selkirk, but I just didn't see them.

The only MBTA equipment that I saw was the #1014 which is heading west for re-build.

FYI -

Look for extensive acceptence tests to being late January 2005 on the Lowell mainline between Wilmington and Lowell (basically, the same test area used for locomotive tests).

Hello all, the first four new double deckers came into Beacon Park last night on Q420.

The numbers were: 900, 901, 902,&903.

I am assuming that the Readville switcher will pick them up from Beacon Park some night this week and take them over the Grand Jct to B.E.T.
