No, Charlie Baker's administration has based its existence on cutting expenses system-wide whether they're necessary or not. Calling the state house and telling that administration "if the T costs extra to run so be it" is going to go over like a paper flood gate. Sometimes what you're suggesting is done; for a very long time Orange Line service was suspended from North Station or Sullivan to Oak Grove every night after 9pm when the ATO system was extended to Oak Grove. Weekend diversions are sometimes unavoidable, however, and this is the time to work in the tunnels because summer is the time to work outside. A track laborer I know explained that the work being done was replacing the rail in the Bowdoin loop and other worn rail. This is something best done in one fell swoop, and you can't take out a section of rail tonight, run service tomorrow, and put the new rail in tomorrow night.

Now THAT is a fantastic idea! If you're going to call the State House, there's something you ought to suggest. Now if only the ferries could be met on the other side of the harbor by an elevated train built on the waterfront of the North End... too bad no one ever thought of that before! :wink:

At the start of service this morning, there was disabled track equipment somewhere on the Orange Line. Buses were being provided between Jackson Square and Back Bay, with no replacement service between Back Bay and Haymarket. Service resumed at about 6:14am.

The shooting at the Motel 6, Union Ave Braintree, and the double homicide inside 141 Dorchester Ave South Boston, appear on the surface to be unrelated. I'm guessing there are a lot of commuters that can't access their cars in Braintree.

On my commute home last evening I noticed that the loop at Government Center has been restored, and a single trolley with TEST TRAIN on it's destination board was
parked at the west end of the loop.

Perhaps with this we can get some B branch cars to serve GC, in particular during peak hours.

Not going to happen. Cutting the B Line back to Park Street was done due to the difficulties of keeping the line operating reliably and on time. Extending it will only create more delays and problems.

And what does a car in the GC loop have to do with the B Line anyway?

My point being is that it is encouraging to see the loop back in service, and the fact that a test trolley was parked on it shows just that, that the T is testing it.

The issue of B branch trolleys serving GC has to do with providing more headway during the peak periods, the morning peak in particular, when those of us coming off the Blue Line
have to wait as some of the E, and C trolleys are already packed to the gills.

On occasion we have a B trolley at GC, last weekend in particular.

The fact is if B trains served GC it would provide LESS headway especially during peak periods.

Whenever there is a problem with a train on any line eastbound in the Central Subway it will be put in the Park Street loop. The loop will be temporarily closed and B Line cars will be directed to Government Centre, the next place to turn the train. It is not a planned event if you see a B train at GC. It messes up the line even more and that line is often plagued by delays on a regular basis anyway.

The Orange Line is being bused north of Wellington today. Track work is being done on the crossovers at Oak Grove, and the entrance to the loop on the north side of Wellington. I'm not sure if it's related or not, but the workers rebuilding the Rt 16 bridge over the tracks at Wellington were taking advantage of the lack of trains to work on the underside of the bridge.
"The destination of this train is [BEEP BEEP]" -announcement on an Ashmont train.

You have it in reverse. The Rt 16 bridge, center section, beams are bring installed this weekend and the MBTA is taking advantage of the this to do track work.

Next weekend (6/17/18), the Blue, Red, and Orange lines will all be on a weekday schedule to deal with the crowds expected for the Boston Sail event.
Saturday will feature the parade of boats on Boston Harbor, and Homeland Security is now more involved in the execution of the event due to the recent events in London.

We had a meeting in our building this past Thursday with Massport, and the Boston PD, and the frozen zone in East Boston is everything west of Sumner Street.
Frozen as in all cars must be off the streets (towing starts at midnight Friday), in the case of our building you will not be allowed to move your car out of the lot from midnight Friday to late Saturday afternoon. Any guests that we have will be issued ID cards so they can walk in and out of our building.

There will be no Water Taxi on Saturday also until late afternoon.

This will be a day for the Blue Line to shine, we all hope that it will.
