I wonder really what the problem is with the locomotives with 67 having dozens of mechanically problems and 1009 having equipment issues and 1056 having HEP problems it's a matter of time before 1056 is put back on a flat set. 1009 should go out to Waterville for some work but I doubt will happen due to a possible retirement around 2013 when hopefully the HSPs come in. But what surprises me is why hasn't 67 been sent back with her numerous issues I mean can't leased engines only be worked on by MPI(which is now the owner of the locomotives) not the MBTA??

Well, here's one way to use fewer engines...

Fairmount cancelled due to track problem 4/29/2011 10:03 AM. All Fairmount trains are cancelled until further notice. Alternate bus service will be provided by the MBTA making all stops.

They were announcing this in subway stations every 2 minutes. I've never heard them do that for Commuter Rail disruptions before.

I live on Truman Highway directly across from Fairmount Station. I saw an outbound arrive at Readville around 1630hrs & when I was headed home around 1645hrs I saw an inbound stopped just south of Fairmount Station, beneath the Dana Avenue Bridge. The outbound tracks have been closed for a couple of weeks now, rebuilding 3 bridges over the Neponset River on either side of Fairmount Station and the tracks have been removed just south of Fairmount, adjacent to Walnut Street.

I heard from south side cond's and A/C's that there was a portion of the track that gave way to the road below, therefor having to close the track

Needham's taking it today:

Needham 607 07:25 AM OB experiencing 25-30 min delays due to 5/10/2011 8:03 AM

Needham 608 08:30 AM IB experiencing 10-15 min delays due to late turn. 5/10/2011 7:58 AM

Needham 606 08:02 AM IB experiencing 10-15 min delays due to late turn 5/10/2011 7:36 AM

I like the reason for 607!

Also trouble on other south side lines, with the dubious "due to." And the 906's turn is delaying itself!

Prov/Stou 906 07:48 AM IB experiencing 10-15 min delays due to late turn of 906 5/10/2011 7:26 AM

Kingston/Plmth 033 07:11 AM OB experiencing 15-20 min delays due to 5/10/2011 7:56 AM

Middle/Lake 010 08:00 AM IB experiencing 15-20 min delays due to late turn 5/10/2011 7:44 AM

The Providence Line had problems as well #800 ended up arriving at Ruggles around the time #802 does, power of #800 engine-1053. I believe #802 did a run a round from behind #800 to in front it bypassing Ruggles at around 6:25 or so power was I think a 1100 on it. But due to traffic on the NEC #609 ended up becoming a 6 or 7 car bilevel train. What a beautiful setup today was!! ;)

From what I could see from the (packed) platform, a train broke down in the middle of the terminal throat blocking several tracks. Another train coupled onto it and moved it onto an empty station track so the 5:00 TF Green (Providence) and Worcester trains could board half an hour late. An ugly commute, to say the least.
