Loco resale market is hot. If it runs well enough to semi-reliably serve any regular commuter rail schedule, it runs better than well enough for most shortlines. Take one look at a big PAR yard and these units are positively mint by comparison. MPI's like a "certified pre-owned" dealer vs. rolling the dice on an old Craigslist beater and hoping it doesn't hit the blowtorch before it pulls its first car. Orders of magnitude difference. They get upkeep and warranty before going back on the market.

Majority of the screamers will live on in the aftermarket, too, when they depart BET for the last time. There's still scads of Amtrak's former first-generation F40's in active service elsewhere.

And any of the MARC GP40s that isn't "mint" when Boise gets it is a good candidate for a repowering/rebuilding into one of the various reuses that there are, particularly for 4 axle units. Gensets, new prime movers, etc.

MARC 66 may be returning to service soon, tonight she was moved from the Diesel House to the Backshop and had her rear axle and traction motor removed for servicing.

The 66 was out today. I saw the 59 yesterday. The 67 was running last week, but it had some issues and I would guess it is at BET.

MARC 51 - 59 - 66 are right now being leased by MBCR on a daily, as needed - as used basis, and it looks like 61 and 67 will be shipped back sometime this week.

Have 61 and 67 been shipped back yet, or are they still on the property?

I believe they're still here. There were a pair of MARC units parked outside the backshop at BET on Monday night, and I think I can account for the other 3 being in service.

61 and 67 have been shipped back..

:(

Any word on what's happening to them, or how the future looks for the 51, 59 and 66?

61, 67, and 1118 just went west on CSX B723. All of the headlights were on dim.

59 is in service, 66 is on standby as a spare, and 51 had air bubbles in the fuel sight glass and will have her fuel tank removed, drained, and cleaned.

Another one of my whacky rebuilding ideas. Ship the 61 and 67 along with the 1118 to Altoona. 1118 will get the standard top-deck, new HEP unit, and the like. Turn the two MARC Units into GP40ECO-H2 units, rebuild from the frame and give them EMD 12-710ECO prime movers, Caterpillar HEP units, and repaint them into the lightning stripe, then bam! We have some more *rebuilt GP40 power with *new primemovers until the HSPs arrive, and will last after the screamers are phased out. Ditto on the 51, 59 and 66, and any other MARC GP40s laying around that could be used. Anyone care to photoshop a GP40WH-2 in the lightning stripe scheme to see what these hypothetical locomotives would look like???

Not a bad idea in theory, except that a rebuild of that scope would cost almost as much as a brand new locomotive. :-\
