Cab cars? No, and I don't see it happening. All the k cars moved north have been placed directly behind the locomotive, and I expect they'll continue that trend with any more that make their way up north.

Disclaimer: I don't work for the mbta or MBCR, so I don't know for sure.

You are correct, I havent seen any K-Cab Cars and it isnt on NETransit. There are only Blind Trailer Coaches(BTC) of the 900-Series and they are ALL behind the locomotives, often being used as "Quiet Cars". Maybe when the Rotem cars arrive in 2012 this will change!

The k cars being added are replacing the German cars on those trains so they remain in the bathroom car position, which is behind the locomotive. None of the first order of Kawasaki cars (which is the order the cab cars are from) have bathrooms, so sending them north wouldn't make sense. PLUS, since most of the north side cabs can't go south, it doesn't make sense sending the south side cabs north, as they can't be traded off (Exception, there are often 2 or 3 German cabs (1500s) running around on the north side in the cab car position, 1500s not in cab car service are often seen on the north side in the bathroom car position).

To reiterate what was said before, the outside point layovers have equipment to facilitate bathrooms at the end of each track, which makes the cars not reachable if they're anywhere except behind the locomotive. This is the primary reason for keeping the bathroom in that position with very few exceptions.

1129 has replaced the 1122 on the 928 set, 1122 now has the 1644 set. That set used to have the 1002, which was involved in a certain mishap at BET...

I just went by BET on 208. Anyone know what's up with the boatload of 700-series k cars sitting on the track next to where 902 and 1016 are? There are 2 or 3 singles and probably 8-10 k cars all coupled together.

I believe that may be related to an issue in the yard from last week, although I'm not sure on that. They're just the usual backlogged OOS cars that were shifted over to the valley instead of next to the Fitchburg route where that stuff usually sits. Routine storage, just in an unusual place.

This is probably better discussed here: Status of Equipment at BET

Anyone have a current count on the K's up north? I'm seeing them quite frequently now.

That's interesting if it's still only 5... I feel like I'm seeing them more often than not! Just coincidence, I guess.

NETransit, usually very reliable, lists the same five it has been for a while: 922, 926, 927, 928, 930.

Today's update to NETransit shows just two K-cars left on the north side: 922 and 926.
