"Train arriving"

Postby parovozis » Sun Sep 19, 2004 4:46 pm

There are two large green signs "Train arriving" mounted on the top of both outboud headhouses at Symphony. Are these signs in use? (I guess not.) Have they ever been in use? Why there are no signs like this at the inbound headhouses?

They did last time I was there the go on around 2 signals prior to arriviver in to the station. And go off upon arrival in the station.
Farewell old friend thanks for the memories.

The signs were placed on the outbound side only because at the time (this would have been late 1980s or early 1990s), Symphony outbound was the only unstaffed subway station in the system. In response to an increase in crime, the signs were installed with the idea that people could wait at street level instead of in the unstaffed station, and go downstairs only when the sign lit up to announce the impending arrival of a train. Symphony inbound was still staffed at the time, so there was no need for the signs there.

Now, of course, both sides of Symphony (and Prudential as well) are unstaffed, but there are security cameras and police call boxes installed as a deterrent instead.
