It also consists of central saying, "Central Calling 4053, What is your location?"

Right. point being that there is no board showing the location of all the trains the way the other lines have. Instead, they have to ask all the trains where they are.

rapid transit lines use track circuit tracking to determine the location of train, but trains must still be verbally contacted to ensure safe practices. A track circuit could be shorted by anything and interfere with the system. With green line avi technology the train itself sends a signal via relays to central control telling it that it has cleared an avi point. In the central subway ther is an avi transponder at almost every station and loop/yard. outside the transponders are located much greater distances apart. red, orange and blue are hoping to get the avi system working, but they have had problems for 10 years with it.

Inspectors are usually cousins of politicians and live in Hyde Park, Readville, Dorchester or Southie, maybe East Boston. There cousin knows somebody who is somebody so as the "peter principle" works at the T they have a job to float around making trouble for people who don't have the conections that they do.

I found that definition in Webster's by the way. :wink:
