I have heard from a source who said he heard from a credible source that 1030 has internal damage is currently being cannabalized for parts, but I am not going to say that this is confirmed.

Work on the 1030 to make her roadworthy is done only when they can spare men to do the work, in other words, its still going to be shipped out for rebuilding, but we have a shortage of help and a large workload in the diesel shop.(its no small task keeping 30 year old F-40's running) Today, (10/24) welders were re-fabricating parts for the front pilot and a new frame to accept a new drawbar. It has been decided to send her to Boise, the cost is rumored to be 1/2 million dollars for a new or rebuilt nose, frame straightening, and re-aligning the main generator and prime mover.

Its not ready to leave yet, but with a shortage of manpower, it will be a while yet...............Stay tuned !

Oh good, for quite a while there it was all doomsday news!

I'm tired of the 1030 rollercoaster! Because next thing I know someone is going to tell me it's being scrapped!

Is 1006 still sitting in BET? Will it be still there for November 8?

1030 isn't 30 years old, it's 16 years old, made in early '92 or late '91

In reply, I can only say, NO SH--, REALLY? I have been working for the Railroad for 35 years, I damn well know when these locomotives were built, I was referring to the much older F-40's that require almost daily maintainence, thereby keeping the mechanical staff at BET too busy to work on what is considered to be unecessary projects. Honest to god, some of you kids on this website, can't wait to jump down someone's throat for the slightest detail, get a life.

Yep, According to the Manufacturing Company, 1030 is Morrison-Knudsen Product, built in '91/92 and several others which were made around that time. But you're right about the screamers, which were built30 years ago at the same time Amtrak's first F40s were built.

There's no need to get all huffy and mad. I think we all know which F40s we are referring to when. BTW in my opinion the geeps require more maintainence than the screamers!

Not to start a war but we need to remember RESPECT here. No railbuff with no R.R experience has more knowledge of a working R.R than someone who has years of experience not to mention bmdcndr in this case. Someone's opinon and ideas that don't work for a R.R DO NOT amount to what a real railroader has for knowledge and experience in any circumstance. Remember railbuffs with know it all attitudes are 1 of the reasons why railroaders don't like buffs in the first place.

OK I am very sorry about that, I guess I was trying to prevent a war in the 1st place when I never should have gotten into it in the 1st place.

Since this is the BET Dead stuff topic I'm just wondering if anyone knows what happened to the 1009? I see it in the dead line behind the 1016 so I'm guessing it will be OOS for sometime! The 1035 will be joining both soon since it just had a recent HEP fire on the way to Franklin!

The 1009 is there for a main generator failure. And the 1016 which just had it's rear truck rebuilt had a HEP wiring failure.

Well according to NETransit 1016 and 1017 went back in service. 1016 is back out, anyone know if 1017 is running?

Good luck with the 1009 and the 1035!!! I saw 1009 a few weeks ago, sounded pretty bad...
