Yo didn't you see hutch's post? It is going to be shipped off for rebuilding.

Just because it's up for bid to be fixed doesn't mean it will happen. As Gerry said, if the bids are too high the T could choose not to rebuild her.

The T might put off rebuilding until after the new locomotive order arrives. If the new locomotives run reliably and can cater to the T's needs, they might not need to rebuild 1030.

My reliable senses tell me that it will probably be quite a while, until possibly 2012, that we will be acquiring new locomotives. Until then, we will become ever more short on power, and with the screamers on the verge of retirement, I'm all for sending 1030 out to be rebuilt. NOT TO AMP, however, as we have lost enough engines to that black hole as it is.

Why so long for new locomotives? If the MBTA is looking for MP-40's or something (forgot exact name), they can be readily built and distributed, right? These locomotives have already been designed and built, so it shouldn't take 4 years to build some.

Anyways, I still am rooting for #1030 to be repaired. We need every last locomotive we can have running right now. Rising gas prices means more demand for CR, and we'll need these new bi-levels and locomotives more than ever. If we get #1030 repaired as well as the other broken locomotives, then we'll hopefully be able to squeak by with the rising demands.

I guess 1030 won't be used in some highly classified test for the MBTA and MBCR in how heavy an engine has to be to hold rails in place. I guess Amtrak 316 provided more than enough data.

Any more news on the 902 or the 1030? And how 'bout my screamers, the 1016 and 1017? Will these engines ever run again?

If they don't I'll buy at least one of them ;)

Slighty OT (Sorry John) But we all should start placing bets on whether the 1006 1116 or 1119 will come home first...

I have heard from people who claim that from inside sources that after a thorough inspection, 1030 suffered frame and internal damage. 1030 is currently being cannabalized for parts and probably won't get rebuilt although the prime mover will probably be put to good use.

However, I am hearing this from people who claim that they know people inside BET so I am NOT saying that this is confirmed or true. Take it with a grain of salt.

902 is probably never going to run again because it died, was in the process of being repaired, burned, then cannabalized for parts to repair 904.

There are also a couple a BTCs inside BET that have been there for a while. I don't know what the fate of those will be. The RDCs are sitting on a siding outside near the siding for Boston Sand and Gravel.

Who else is getting tired of the 1030 scrap-or-save roller-coaster ride??? ;)

Reliable sources say the 1006 is on the load box at Waterville, then to the paint
booth.
